PlanetVelocity's datacenter is located in the new Telus IDC in downtown Toronto. This new 40 Million dollar facility provides Planetvelocity with the most advanced network and positively the fastest backbone in Canada. We've selected our partners carefully. And selected the best.

At PlanetVelocity, we've built a network without a single point of failure. Every device and system in our datacenter has a backup, a partner that can take over in case anything goes wrong. Even if one of our servers goes down, access to your data and Web site will remain uninterrupted. Constant monitoring ensures that any serious problem receives immediate attention. We  estimate a network uptime of at least 99.999 percent.
 
The Structure

Traffic coming in and out of our network flows through fiber-optic cables into our two Foundry Networks BigIron 8000 switches. The BigIron switches are clustered together so that one can take over the functions of the other in case of a hardware failure. Load balancers prevent either switch from taking on more traffic than it needs to.

The BigIron switches in turn connect to our high-end UNIX servers, which handle access to your data and Web site. Those servers are backed up by several failover servers. These servers are all interchangeable, and the load balancers prevent any given server from becoming overworked.

The UNIX servers also connect via the BigIron switches to two NetApp F760 File Servers, where your data is stored. Each NetApp server is capable of storing up to 1 TB of data in an internal RAID. As with all such systems in our network, the two F760s are clustered together. 

Full Protection

We're prepared to deal with power failures and other external problems as well. We have multiple diesel-fuel backup generators to keep our servers running during power outages, and we use uninterruptible power supplies to keep things going smoothly during more minor interruptions. We also use state-of-the-art smoke-detection and fire-suppression systems.

Our thorough on-site security includes motion sensors, video surveillance and security breach alarms to provide only secured physical access to our datacenter. Only PlanetVelocity's network engineers are allowed in this facility. We also have security experts working full-time to maintain and monitor a firewall that prevents online intrusions.
